The Value of a Logo

One of the deciding factors for many entrepreneurs when trying to decide who to hire for logo, web or brand design services is price. How can a logo from one designer cost $20 and another designer charge $2000 (even up to $200k)? The answer is value, and specifically, how much risk are you willing to accept with the designer you pick. If you are considering hiring the lowest priced designer you can find (or free from your friend's kid who just got a stolen copy of photoshop), you may think you are saving some money (and "...offering them a great opportunity for exposure"), but what you won't be receiving is the value that comes from working with an experienced designer who understands the best practises for logo or web design. How much is it going to cost a business in lost sales if customers are turned off by your logo or website? And how much would it cost your business if you had to start the branding process over again and redesign/reprint all of your business cards, letterheads, fliers, brochures, branded merchandise and your website? That expense is both obvious (redesign expenses, reprint expenses, etc...) and less obvious (rebranding means leaving behind any brand equity you had started to build and introducing a new brand to customers).

Partnering with an experienced designer who can deliver an effective, attractive, thoughtful and scalable visual brand not only sets your business up for success right away, but it also will likely help you save money (not having to rebrand, reprint, remanufacture) and earn you money faster (people who trust your branding are more likely to become customers).
